What blood purification with hemoadsorption means for you

How tiny beads can make a vital difference

Our therapies are based on tiny porous polymer beads, each no larger than a grain of salt. They are compatible with blood and are non-toxic.

These beads have a special internal structure full of tiny holes and channels. When these beads are packed together in our CytoSorb® cartridge, they act like a sponge with a large surface area – comparable to more than seven U.S. football fields or five soccer fields, in a single device. When blood is pumped through our cartridges, this large surface area is designed to bind and remove a broad range of elevated toxins and other harmful substances that traditional blood purification, like dialysis, cannot remove as efficiently.
 
Being approved for the reduction of certain critical substances is one of the keys to the power of our technology, as many critical substances can be out of balance in life-threatening diseases. Our technology is designed to remove substances of certain size and chemical form that are present in high concentration in blood. Importantly, beneficial substances such as cells, electrolytes, sugars, and antibodies are not prone to removal either due to their size or their physicochemical properties. Excessive levels of certain harmful substances like those that can cause a “cytokine storm” and bacterial toxins, for example, fall into the target spectrum of the device and therefore can be trapped and removed from the blood.

CytoSorb 300 IFU 03/2023 – Indications:
CytoSorb is indicated for use in conditions where elevated levels of cytokines and/or bilirubin and/or myoglobin exist. CytoSorb is indicated for use intraoperatively during cardio-pulmonary bypass surgery for the removal of P2Y12-Inhibitor Ticagrelor and/or Factor Xa-Inhibitor Rivaroxaban. Results from current studies suggest that CytoSorb may be administered for up to 7 consecutive days. Maximum Treatment Time per Device: 24 Hour.
